Host Responsibility
Resort Scenery Hospitality Ltd, trading as Resort Scenery, holds a gambling venue licence for The Albion Room at 31 Esplanade, St Clair, Dunedin 9012, Otago, New Zealand. Section 308 of the Gambling Act 2003 requires every venue operator to develop and to run a host responsibility policy aimed at minimising harm from gambling. This is ours. It is displayed in full inside the room, the duty manager holds a printed copy, and it applies to every person who comes through the door.
We are a hotel. Gaming is one room in a building with 78 bedrooms, a restaurant, a bar, a bathhouse and 3 event rooms, and it is not why most people are here. That shapes how it is run: the room is small, it shuts early by international standards, and nobody on our staff is paid a commission on anything that happens inside it. The Department of Internal Affairs is the regulator, and its inspectors may enter the venue at any time.
