One kitchen serves the whole building: the restaurant, the bar, room service, the event rooms and the bathhouse terrace. It runs from half past six in the morning until half past nine at night, seven days a week, and it is staffed by eighteen people of whom eleven have been here more than three years.

Ninety-two seats, twenty-four of them on the glass
The room runs the length of the south face at ground level, with the sea wall in front of it. Twenty-four covers sit along the window; those are requested when the table is booked, not when the party arrives, and on a Friday they go a fortnight out.
The menu is short and gets rewritten about six times a year, whenever the supply changes rather than whenever the season turns on a calendar. What is on it most of the year: blue cod and groper landed at Careys Bay, Otago lamb, beef from South Otago, Big Glory Bay salmon, whitebait in its short season, Central Otago stone fruit from January, and vegetables off the Taieri Plain twenty minutes west.
Non-residents are welcome at every service. Booking is sensible from Thursday to Sunday and after five in the evening.
Forty-four seats and a fire
Next door to the restaurant, through an arch rather than a corridor. Forty-four seats, half of them at low tables facing the water, and an open fire that is lit at four in the afternoon from April to October and not before.
The list runs to 128 labels, of which 96 come from Central Otago, North Otago and the Waitaki Valley. Sixty are open by the glass on any given evening, poured from preservation taps so that the last glass matches the first. Four Dunedin beers on tap, rotated quarterly, plus a stout that has been on since we opened because taking it off caused trouble.
Guests under 18 are welcome in the bar with an adult until 9pm.
From half past six
Breakfast is cooked to order rather than held under a lamp, with a small buffet alongside it for people who want to be gone in ten minutes. Half past six is early for a hotel this size, and it exists because guests leave for the 8am departure from the Railway Station and for the first flight out of Momona.
If you are leaving before half past six, tell the desk the night before and a packed breakfast is at reception when you come down: it is not a lesser version, and there is no charge for it on any rate that includes breakfast.
Dietary requirements. Tell us at the time of booking and the kitchen writes it against the reservation. Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan are cooked as dishes in their own right, not as the main course with something removed from it. Allergen information for every item is held at the pass and the duty chef will come out and go through it.

The Roslyn Room takes a private table of up to 24 with its own service, and The Signal Room seats 14 around one table. Both come with the set menu or a written menu agreed in advance. Minimum spend applies on Friday and Saturday evenings; the events page has the numbers.
The Albion Room has no service of its own. There is table service from the bar menu to the seating area outside the gaming room door until 11pm. Nothing is given away free of charge to anyone who is playing, which is a condition of our host responsibility policy rather than a pricing decision.
Resort Scenery is a hotel and entertainment resort at St Clair in Dunedin, New Zealand. This website carries information about our rooms, restaurant, bar, bathhouse, event spaces, gaming room and guest services. The Albion Room holds gaming machines, table games and live table gaming on the premises only, for guests and visitors aged 20 and over, and closes at 2.30am.
There is no play on this website. Resort Scenery runs no internet gaming, no betting service and no remote gaming of any kind. Nothing here accepts a stake, a deposit or a wager, and no account can be opened. Gaming happens in one room of this building, in person, under the Gambling Act 2003 and the conditions of our licence.
